after a much needed, awesome night sleep, we all headed out to enjoy a couple great parts of our city....we started at the pepper place saturday market....it was our first chance to go this season....we really enjoyed it & picked up a few goodies....i am already looking forward to going back in a few weeks!
with our yum-o's packed up we headed to the zoo.....i know i have said this before but we absolutely LOVE our zoo membership, it was an amazing gift!! here's the thing though, we usually try to hit the zoo during the week ~ not 10:30 on a saturday morning! wow, it was crazy...but seeing as we go quite often we skipped around a bit and tried to do the special things going on today.....
it was reptile today so they had a few new friends.....here's waldo! he is a giant tortoise...and surprisingly to us, not as slow as we thought :)
they were also doing a feeding at the alligator snapping turtle exhibit....it was so cute seeing grant right at the glass....he squealed and giggled at all the fish :)
i know it is hard to see, you may have to click on the pic to enlarge, but they are feeding ol' gary - the largest snapping turtle - a mouse....it was quite neat to watch.....they say that ol' gary was most likely born in 1920!!!
this is one of the smaller snapping turtles....small or not, i wouldn't want to be too close to those big chompers!!
audrey wanted to go through the trails of the alabama habitat exhibit and we wondered upon this beauty.....makes you feel patriotic doesn't it?!?!
we wanted to get a close up of the hippo, who we have named gloria, but she was lounging in her big ol' mud puddle....so we were happy to see this big rhino guy walking around...

after lunch & grant's nap, we headed to the backyard for the rest of the day....audrey broke in her slip-n-slide, as did her daddy, and grant was loving the little pool.....ahhh, so relaxing....we finished the evening with grilling out our corn from the market, vidalia onions & hotdogs....
grant was "skimming" our pool for us :)
tomorrow is church (yeah!!) and then i think we are heading to the vulcan's birthday bash....he's 105 ya know! more pics to follow :)
